Quick answer

Carpal tunnel syndrome and TMJ disorders both involve small joints and irritated tissues — and both often have a neck and posture component. Flagler Chiropractic is at 1240 S. Oceanshore Blvd., Flagler Beach, FL — call (386) 439-9001.

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Carpal tunnel involves pressure on the median nerve at the wrist, causing numbness, tingling or weakness in the thumb and first fingers — often worse at night. Because the nerve starts in the neck, we check the neck, shoulder, elbow and wrist.

Conservative care may include wrist and elbow adjustments, neck care, soft-tissue therapy, K-Laser, ultrasound, ergonomic changes and nerve-gliding exercises.

TMJ (jaw) disorders

TMJ problems cause jaw pain, clicking, headaches and ear fullness. Posture, clenching and neck tension frequently play a role. Gentle care may include cranial therapy, soft-tissue work for the jaw muscles, neck adjustments and headache management.

When to see another specialist

Constant numbness, muscle wasting in the hand, or a locked jaw may need medical, dental or surgical evaluation. We coordinate referrals when appropriate.

Many people with mild to moderate symptoms benefit from conservative care including joint mobilization, soft-tissue therapy and ergonomic changes.

Is TMJ related to neck posture?

Often, yes. Forward-head posture and neck tension can increase jaw strain.
